INFICON Completes Shipment of $1.8 Million HAPSITE Order

Syracuse, New York and Zurich, Switzerland - January 24, 2002 - INFICON Holding AG (SWX Swiss Exchange and NASDAQ: IFCN), a leading developer, supplier, and manufacturer of vacuum instrumentation for semiconductor and related markets and a worldwide leader in vacuum instrumentation for industrial applications and on-site diagnostic assessment, today announced that it has delivered HAPSITE Field Portable Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) units to the U.S. Department of Defense under a $1.8 million order. Some of the units in the U.S. Department of Defense's order will be deployed as part of its security initiatives for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.

HAPSITE Field Portable GC/MS instruments are used for immediate on-site analysis of toxic gases for rapid decision-making. Used to determine the level of volatile organic compounds and to designate safe areas, HAPSITE has been sold to various U.S. military branches, to military units within NATO, to state and city governments for emergency response, and to a broad range of private sector customers for environmental applications such as hazardous waste site analysis and remediation, chemical process control, and indoor industrial hygiene applications.

"Our recent acquisition of HAPSITE, which leverages our expertise in gas sensing and vacuum technology, is already starting to pay dividends. In support of today's heightened focus on homeland security and emergency response, HAPSITE meets an urgent need for fast, effective, on-site analysis of chemical agents to assess potential danger and react quickly." said James L. Brissenden, president and chief executive officer.
