INFICON Receives $2.2 Million Follow-on Order for HAPSITE From U.S. Department of Defense

Reflects Continuing Demand from Air Force for Market-Leading INFICON Technology

Zurich, Switzerland/Syracuse NY - October 10, 2006 - INFICON (SWX Swiss Exchange: IFCN), a global leader in advanced instrumentation designed for fast on-site detection of chemical warfare agents and other industrial applications, today announced it has received a follow-on order from the United States’ Department of Defense for the Air Force in support of the HAPSITE Chemical Identification System. The order, valued at $2.2 million, initiates a two-year program to ensure constant field readiness of the large installed base of the instruments and a reserve of HAPSITES kept at the ready for immediate deployment to supplement the units currently used by the Air Force.

Lukas Winkler, president and chief executive officer, commented, “This significant order illustrates the mission-critical nature of HAPSITE and the continuing importance to the military. We are especially pleased by our ongoing relationship with the U.S. Air Force and are honored by the confidence they have in our product and technology.”

HAPSITE Chemical Identification System, the only fully man-portable gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (GC/MS), was developed using INFICON expertise in gas-sensing and vacuum technology. It provides a means for fast, on-scene detection and analysis of chemical agents and toxic gases in air, soil and water, confirming the presence or absence of chemical threats in high-risk situations.

HAPSITE is part of the INFICON environmental health and security line of products. The company has sold these products to U.S. and other military organizations, state and city governments, and to private and public sector customers for emergency response, security, industrial hygiene and other environmental applications.
