INFICON Receives $1.2 Million Order for HAPSITE Chemical Detector From The U.S. Department of Defense

Syracuse, New York and Zurich, Switzerland - October 14, 2002 - INFICON Holding AG (SWX Swiss Exchange and NASDAQ: IFCN), a leading manufacturer of vacuum instrumentation and critical sensor technologies for the semiconductor and related industries and other industrial applications, has received a $1.2 million order for the HAPSITE Field Portable Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer from the U.S. Department of Defense. Most of the HAPSITE instruments will ship in the fourth quarter to the U.S. Air Force.

The HAPSITE Field Portable GC/MS is another example of INFICON expertise in gas sensing and vacuum technology. It is used for fast, on-site detection and analysis of chemical agents and toxic materials. INFICON has sold HAPSITE to the U.S. military, state and city governments for emergency response, and to a broad range of private sector customers for environmental applications such as hazardous waste site analysis and remediation, chemical process control, and industrial hygiene.

"Demand for HAPSITE has been escalating throughout 2002 driven by the U.S. Department of Defense need for immediate analysis of chemical agents in field operations at home and abroad," said James L. Brissenden, president and chief executive officer. "Based on input from the U.S. Department of Defense, we expect additional orders that will significantly grow HAPSITE revenues throughout 2003."
