John Grad Named Chairman of INFICON

Syracuse, New York/Zurich, Switzerland - June 7, 2002 - INFICON Holding AG (SWX Swiss Exchange and NASDAQ: IFCN), a leading manufacturer of vacuum instrumentation and critical sensor technologies for the semiconductor and related industries and other industrial applications, today announced that John J. Grad has been named Chairman of the Board of Directors of INFICON.

Mr. Grad succeeds Paul Choffat, who resigned to become Head of Novartis Consumer Health and Member of the Novartis Executive Committee.

"Since joining our Board as Vice Chairman in November 2000, John Grad has played a pivotal role in the development of INFICON as a public company, and we welcome him as our new Chairman," said James Brissenden, president and chief executive officer. John Grad brings more than 30 years of business acumen to the INFICON Board of Directors. From 1998 through October 2000, Mr. Grad served as president and chief executive officer of Siemens Building Technologies Inc., a single-source supplier of engineered products, systems and services. In 1987, Mr. Grad joined Landis & Gyr AG where he became president of Landis & Gyr Powers Inc. In 1991, he was named to their Executive Board, and in 1993, he assumed responsibility for Landis & Gyr Holding Inc., the holding company for all North American divisions, while retaining the position of president and CEO of Landis & Gyr Powers Inc. In March 1996, he became president and CEO of Landis & Staefa Inc., a position that he retained until the creation of Siemens Building Technologies. In 2001, Mr. Grad founded Chicago-based John J. Grad and Associates Inc. Management Consultants. John Grad holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management and a MBA from the University of Cincinnati.
