New Jersey Certifies INFICON On-line / Portable Gas Chromatograph for Field Water Monitoring
New Jersey Dept. of Environmental Protection certifies Scentograph Portable GC for on-line water monitoring of toxic chemicals
SYRACUSE, NY - May 9, 2005: The State of New Jersey has now certified the INFICON Scentograph CMS200 with SituProbe Gas Chromatograph (GC) as a detection device for measuring VOCs in water. The report of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) states, "the INFICON Scentograph with SituProbe is capable of performing real-time, on-line monitoring for VOCs of regulatory concern down to relevant detection levels, and with data quality that is comparable to the prescribed (USEPA) analytical method." The NJDEP also stated, "As a result, any existing VOCs that violate the regulatory standards can be mitigated quickly, which may reduce potential damage to the environment and human health."
INFICON Scentograph CMS200 eliminates long waits for sample results from off-site laboratories for faster decision-making in critical situations. Concentrations ranging from low part-per-trillion to high part-per-million can be accurately measured and reported-within minutes. INFICON Scentograph is especially useful in the areas of environmental investigation and remediation for detecting toxic industrial chemicals and chemical warfare agents.
The NJDEP went on to say "Additionally, the sensitivity of the SituProbe purge method allows the device to be used to detect low concentrations of VOCs in drinking water, industrial process water, wastewater, etc.
With this device, facility managers and consultants will be able to measure the VOCs levels and movements in their water streams at any given time, so they can effectively operate their VOC treatment systems."
A Memorandum of Understanding with California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia means that these states recognize and validate the certification of the Scentograph technology for regulatory use in their states as well.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), in accordance with the Energy and Environmental Technology Verification Act, is required to identify, evaluate, verify, and expedite the commercial use of new environmental technologies that provide significant environmental benefits to the State of New Jersey. Scentograph CMS200 with SituProbe is listed under the category of Monitoring Technologies, and INFICON is the only vendor certified within this category.
"This certification is a significant validation of our innovative technology," said Lukas Winkler, president and CEO of INFICON. "Continuous VOC monitoring allows authorities and plant management to know with certainty at any time that the levels of VOCs in drinking water prior to distribution or the levels in waste water prior to discharge are safe. We are confident the Scentograph can contribute to the protection and security of our water resources against intentional and unintentional chemical contamination."
The certification is based on a verification report submitted to the NJDEP by the New Jersey Corporation for Advanced Technology (NJCAT).
